Position Title:  Senior Data Engineer 

Position Type: ExemptFull-Time, Salary 

Location: Washington DC and Arlington, VA

Position Summary: 

The Senior Data Engineer will work directly with customers and Agile project teams to implement an agency-wide Data Strategy.  This role will build and deliver technical products that meet customer expectations to support project goals and objectives.  The Senior Product Developer will collaborate with customers and Agile team members and will provide technical expertise and guidance based on practical experience

Responsibilities & Duties:  

General 

  • Support the data governance program, data quality program, and establishment of data standards. 
  • Deliver solutions that reduce manual data entry and aggregation to promote a data-driven culture.  
  • Deliver solutions to integrate disparate data to provide actionable business Intelligence products. 
  • Incorporate network analytics to strengthen case adjudication and enhance risk identification.   
  • Deliver a unified case complexity model, intelligent automation, and machine learning to optimize data analyst time. 
  • Design and develop technical products that meet or exceed customer expectations. 
  • Test and debug products to meet quality expectations and acceptance criteria. 
  • Actively participate in improving products by performing quality reviews. 
  • Ensure compliance with customer and VerticalApps policies & procedures, safety, state, and federal laws, regulations, and standards. 

Agile 

  • Translate product backlog items into logical units of work. 
  • Evaluate the technical feasibility of product backlog items and identify implementation options 
  • Deliver product backlog items to meet Product Owner expectations. 
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies such as daily stand-ups, grooming, planning, and retrospectives. 
  • Build a culture of trust with stakeholders and within the agile team. 
  • Create an environment of continuous improvement within the team 

Leadership 

  • Support Technical Challenge activities as necessary. 
  • Support business development and proposal activities as needed. 
  • Guide less experienced technical team members. 

Qualifications:  

  • US citizenship required. 
  • Previous federal government contracting experience preferred. 
  • Active DOD Secret Clearance or DHS Clearance preferred. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or other technology subject. 
  • 5+ years of practical experience implementing technical products or business intelligence solutions. 
  • Experience delivering business intelligence solutions. 
  • Agile certification preferred (CSM, CSD). 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:  

  • In-depth knowledge of business intelligence technologies (e.g. Oracle BI, SAS, Tableau). 
  • Ability to integrate data from disparate data sources within an organization.  
  • Knowledge of developments in data architecture, data modeling, data design and related processes. 
  • A strong grasp of the current and emerging developments in BI solutions. 
  • Significant practical experience with full-stack web development. 
  • Experience with cloud solutions and DevOps. 
  • Experience with build automation and automated testing. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and project team members. 
  • Ability to identify creative solutions to challenging technical problems. 
  • Able to adjust quickly to changing priorities and execute while under pressure. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence, negotiate, and resolve conflict. 
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • High-level of flexibility, creativity, and innovation. 
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude while working under pressure. 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
